The Lions Club of Penguin was established in 1962 and has operated continuously since then. The club is autonomous, but is part of the International Association of Lions Clubs, a global organisation of over 1.5 million people in most countries of the world. The club has done all manner of things in the community since its inception. Some projects are annual ones (Christmas Cakes, Christmas Carols, Christmas Parade, Playhouse Raffle), some are ongoing (Penguin LEO Club, Lions Mints, Lions Park), some are once only events (appeals, fundraisers, special events).
The club meets twice monthly. The first meeting of the month is a dinner meeting; second one is a business meeting.
Membership is open to men and women 18 years and over of good character. Membership is by invitation only; it is not hard to get an invitation. To become a Lion, you need to be willing to help others in the community.
There is an annual membership fee. (Call for details.) Members are not asked to financially support our projects, but rather to contribute their time, energy and ideas. Enthusiasm is essential!
The Lions organisation is not affiliated with any religious or political organisation, and discussion of partisan politics and sectarian religion is not permitted among club members.
